HIV AIDSIn the early 1980’s, the first cases of a new immunodeficiency disease were observed in the United States.

In American cities, the number of patients, initially only gay men quickly. Soon it was known that it is an infectious disease. It was called AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).

In 1983, the virus was identified that causes AIDS. As a name for the field, the abbreviation HIV prevailed, it stands for Human immunodeficiency virus.

AIDS is not a notifiable disease in Pakistan. However, the direct or indirect detection of HIV in laboratory investigation must be reported to the authorities.

Symptoms

Causes

HIV and AIDS are caused by the human immunodeficiency virus. However, HIV & AIDS are not same. Only the last stage of infection, when the immune system is largely destroyed and various diseases occur as a result of immune deficiency is referred to as actual AIDS.

1. The HIV infection is spread primarily through unprotected sexual intercourse. It is also important to know that the risk of sexually transmitted diseases in HIV infection rises sharply.
